GERUND

ü  Pengantar

Gerund adalah V-ing yang difungsikan sebagai noun / kata benda. Karena difungsikan sebagai noun, maka tempatnya gerund adalah di tempat-tempat yang bisa di duduki noun.

ü  Penggunaan Gerund

a.       Sebagai subject

-            Swimming makes us healty.

b.      Sebagai object preposisi / kata depan

Sehingga preposisi seperti: in, on, of, for, big, about, whitout, after, before, ... etc.

Biasa diikuti gerund:

-            Thanks for coming.

-            He improves his English by whatching English movie.

c.       Sebagai object dan beberapa verbs (kata kerja) antara lain:

Practice, avoid, postpone, risk, enjoy, mind, admit, stop, detest, apprecite, keep, understand, deny, excuse, considen, hate,... etc.

-            She enjoys working in the bank.

-            Would you mind helping me?

d.       Gerund dengan makna passive

-            My room needs cleaning.

= my room needs to be cleaned.

-            The food is worth eating.

= the food is worth to be eaten.

e.       Gerund sebagai complement / pelengkap

-            Her job is sorting the mail.
